Steph Curry and his wife Ayesha Curry are joining forces with the Alameda County Community Food Bank and the Oakland Unified School District to donate over a million meals to Oakland students whom coronavirus-related closures have prevented from attending school.

Announced last Friday via Twitter, the Golden State Warriors guard and his cookbook-author/TV-personality wife are seeking donations for the newly formed Eat.Learn.Play. Foundation.

“We just found out that the Oakland Unified School District is closing the doors for the foreseeable future, so we want to intercede on behalf of the kids that rely on the daily services and try to help,” the athlete said in a Twitter video, as reported by CNN.

The OUSD has closed schools through April 5. That closure could expand further into the future, for all anyone knows as yet.

As reported by CNN, the Warriors have also collectively pledged to donate a million dollars to the disaster relief fund that has been established for Chase Center employees who are out of work thanks to coronavirus-related measures suspending the NBA season.

Curry has revealed his philanthropic nature in years past. After winning a 2016 Kia Sorento as part of his MVP award following a successful 2015 season, he donated the car to the East Oakland Youth Development Center. And in 2012, he started donating three insecticide-treated mosquito nets for every three-pointer he completed to a United Nations malaria-combating program.

As reported by numerous outlets last year, despite the Warriors’ move to San Francisco, Curry sustains a strong sentimental bond with Oakland.
